INTRODUCING SUKI

Suki is a gorgeous girl, on the smaller side of medium (about 13kgs), 3 years old. She has been in foster assessment and we now know that she will thrive in a fairly calm home, with no children. She gets on fine with other dogs. She hasn’t been tested with cats, but she tries to chase birds and squirrels when out on walks, so she probably shouldn’t live with cats.

Her foster describes her as “a cuddly, affectionate and playful lady. Very quick to trust you. Always wants to be part of the action, with her humans. She is up for an adventure, but also very good at snoozing quietly – basically, she will adapt to whatever her humans want to do!”.

She is fully housetrained and sleeps quietly through the night. When her people leave her, she has separation anxiety (panting and whining) for about 15 minutes, and then she self settles. So it is very likely that this can be worked on and improved. She enjoys being close to the resident dog, and loves to play with her.

Suki has no problem with the collar or harness. She gets a bit over excited at the start of a walk, and tends to pull, but she settles soon enough, and walks quite well. She likes to sniff and mark. She is good at politely greeting other dogs she meets out on walks, and shows no reaction to walkers, or cyclists etc. She travels well enough in a car.

Suki is very food motivated and eager to please, so continuing her training should be quite easy. She has good recall. She enjoys cuddles and strokes, but doesn’t really like to be picked up.

The Responsible Dog Rescue provides incredible support to all fosters and new adopters. We are a community, and we help each other. We have behaviour experts, and lots of experienced fosterers, on hand to help you.

We always advise slow and supervised introductions to other pets, and of course, always have safe introductions to children. For adopting dogs, all children in the household must be at least 5 years old, but we would prefer a home without young children for Suki. Direct access to a private, secure garden is ideal, but we will consider homes without gardens.
