INTRODUCING TAMEKA

10 year old Female 💥💥Available for FOSTER (could lead to ADOPTION)💥💥Currently in North Ayrshire KA20

Tameka is a fabulous, large (36kgs) female, aged about 10 years old. She came over from Romania a couple of years ago and has been in foster assessment. She is now ready to find her permanent home, or a new foster home.

We need a confident leader for Tameka – someone with large breed experience.

She is fully housetrained and sleeps for 10 – 12 hours at night without a peep out of her. During the day, she is fine to be on her own for 4 – 5 hours and shows no sign of separation anxiety.

Her foster says that she is “an adorable character, with a great personality. She is really friendly with those she trusts”. She doesn’t actively seek out affection, but does like to be close to you, follow you around and sleep at your feet. She has settled down nicely in her foster home and is happy to be handled. She has learned some basic commands and is responsive to training/treats when indoors.

She is a very independent dog, yet protective of her person and her space. She can be nervous of new people in the home, particularly men. She likes to potter about and do her own thing. She spends the majority of the day snoozing between walks, and sunbathing, with the occasional burst of playfulness. She likes to have access to outdoors, and to be able to go in and out as she pleases.

Tameka loves her harness and her lead, as it means walkies. She walks really well on the lead, and walks well with a dog who is familiar to her. However, she is selectively reactive to unfamiliar dogs walking by, and can pull quite hard. (So her new adopter needs the physical strength to be able to handle this). She has a strong prey drive and will try to get at anything furry, so she should not be rehomed with cats. She loves running. She prefers rural park walks to streets and busy roads. She has a fairly rough and exuberant play style, which would probably not be suitable for small children. She likes tug and squeaky toys.

She travels fine in a car. She has learned her basic commands, and has good recall in the house and garden, though this disappears when she is out on walks. She is not a fan of water (baths, rain, sea, rivers etc).

Tameka will make a brilliant pet/companion in the right household. She is large and strong, so adopters will need to be able to handle that. Her perfect home would be an adult home (or older teenagers), with a good sized garden, in a more rural area.

If you would like to foster or adopt Tameka, and understand the commitment you are making when you take on a rescue dog, please complete the form using the link below, or ask one of our volunteers and they will be happy to help.😇😇

The Responsible Dog Rescue provides incredible support to all fosters and new adopters. We are a community, and we help each other. We have behaviour experts, and lots of experienced fosterers, on hand to help you.

We always advise slow and supervised introductions to other pets, and of course, always have safe introductions to children. For fostering dogs, all children in the household must be at least 8 years old. Direct access to a private, secure garden is required.
